Reception: October 4, 5:30-7:30 pm, with a Gallery talk starting at 6:00 pm

As a visual artist, Julio Lugo Rivas has a particular taste for zooming in, zooming out, focusing and blurring subjects, objects, or scenes from everyday life. Starting from social, political, and economic criteria, he delves into the relationship of living beings with their environments to present diverse readings that invite contemplation and reflection. Lugo Rivas uses the scientific method as part of the creative process both in the conceptualization and development of his artistic research.

The John and June Allcott Gallery has a three-tiered mission: (1) to exhibit the work of professional artists, (2) to exhibit faculty work, and (3) to provide exhibition opportunities for studentsA faculty committee plans and manages the gallery exhibitions with the help of Graduate Assistants. Assistants take part in all facets of the gallery’s operations. Created through a generous gift from the Allcott family, the Gallery is named for former Art Department Chair, John Allcott, and his wife, artist June Allcott
