Morrison Basketball Court Mural by Nina Chanel Abney

 

In spring 2018, Carolina students in the ARTS 290 class had the opportunity of a lifetime to contribute to a large-scale public art project with visual artist Nina Chanel Abney who was here as a recipient of the Duke/UNC Nannerl Keohane Distinguished Visiting Professorship. Through the Woods by Paul Friedrich

 

In the Spring of 2020, the Kenan-Flagler Business School approached Arts Everywhere about commissioning a new mural for the undergraduate floor of the Kenan-Flagler building. The objective of the project was to create a piece of art with the Undergraduate Business Program students’ experience in mind. The committee selected artist Paul Friedrich and his proposed mural, “Through The Woods.”

“Through the Woods” is a semi-optical illusion of seeing either the trees or the city when looking at the mural. See how the KFB mural developed and to learn more about the artist!

Fetzer Gym Mural by Livian Kennedy

 

In Spring 2020, UNC alumna Jessica Szymczak (’20) came to Arts Everywhere with the idea of creating a mural in a stairwell of Fetzer Hall as a way to encourage people to be more active. Working together with the College of Arts & Sciences’ exercise and sport science department we sent out a call for design proposals. After a review, the committee was pleased to select artist Livian Kennedy, a UNC graduate with degrees in studio art and dramatic art. Kennedy completed the larger-than-life mural just before the start of the Fall 2020 school year.

THINK! by Max Dowdle

 

In Spring 2021, UNC alum, Caroline Greiner, came to us with the idea of creating a mural in the basement of Phillips Hall. Together with the UNC – NCSU Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering and artist Max Dowdle, we worked to give the stairwell in Philips an extra splash of color. UNC Research Mural

 

In Spring 2021 Arts Everywhere teamed up with UNC Research to brighten up the wall in UNC Research’s office space. The hope was that the mural would celebrate the many facets and advancements of UNC Research and reflect the life-changing work researchers do at UNC under the strategic priorities of the research enterprise, its global and local impact, and/or connections back to main campus. The selection committee chose artist Britt Flood who designed and installed the mural in Fall 2021.

UNC Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Mural

 

In Fall 2021, Arts Everywhere and the UNC Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention (HPDP) sought design proposals for a new mural to be installed on the outdoor wall space at the HPDP office to help transform the experience of this space through art.

Charting Depths in the Waters of Knowledge by Max Dowdle

 

In spring 2021, Arts Everywhere assisted the UNC Institute of Marine Sciences in calling for a mural design to go on the exterior of their building to celebrate their 75th anniversary. The selection committee chose artist, Max Dowdle, who installed the mural along with IMS staff, students and community members in July 2022.

Journey Through Mountains

 

After the Environment, Health and Safety department won Arts Everywhere’s “I Was Here: Postcards from the Pandemic” project, they received a $2,500 budget for artwork in their office and clinic space. In Fall 2022, Isabel Lu, the chosen artist for the mural, created a serene landscape at the request of the EHS Clinic staff, who sought something calming for both the staff and patients.

Command Center

 

The Service Desk Student Union location features a mural, “Command Center,” by Denver, Colorado-based muralist ILL.DES. The mural includes and Augmented Reality (AR) that brings the enture mural to live. The view the mural in AR, download the Artivive app. Animation by JonnaP Arts.
