Primary Color Mixing is literally the basis for any color. The renowned American artist, Jacob Lawrence, used these colors primarily in his work because they were bold, dynamic, stunning, and most of all CHEAP. “The primary colors were like 15 cents a jar at the five and dime,” Lawrence once explained in an interview (Trickey 2002). One of his most famous works is a series of 60 paintings called “The Migration Series” that dealt with the migration of African Americans to the north from the south in the early 1900s. For this he used mostly primary colors!

Through examining Lawrence’s beautiful and impactful work, and with the guidance of MFA Phuong Nguyen, participants in this Zoom workshop can make their own three color masterpiece! You don’t want to miss this opportunity to not only learn a wonderful arts skill, but also witness the beautiful works of this great artist!
