Graduate Lecture Series Talk: “The Korean Demilitarized Zone as a Speculative Landscape”
Description
The Graduate Lecture Series’ spring line-up begins on January 28 with PhD Candidate Adhy Kim, who will be presenting a talk on “The Korean Demilitarized Zone as a Speculative Landscape.”
Kim’s talk will examine the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) as a speculative landscape for Korean American writers, namely Don Mee Choi and Andy Choi, to creatively re-interpret Korean historical memory in order to re-think the impasse of national division. Ultimately, he argues, this reflects that Korean American writers are revitalizing the concept of minjung in the twenty-first century.
