UNC Achordants’ Arts Everywhere Performance!
I’m here with another spotlight on one of our student organizations here on campus that will be participating in Arts Everywhere Day!
UNC Achordants are Partnering with Arts Everywhere!
Today we’ll hear from Oliver, the Achordants’ Assistant Music Director. The Achordants, founded in 2001, is an all-male a cappella group here in campus. Since 2005, the Achordants have released 5 albums, all of which are available on Spotify and Apple Music.
What is your favorite part about being a part of the Achordants?
The Achordants are so goofy that it almost obscures our musical ability, but we make it work somehow. Being a part of a group that values joy as as much as it values singing makes everything so much more fun.
What is your advice to anyone who wants to begin a career in a cappella?
Make sure you find the right group for you. Every one of the 9 million a cappella groups at UNC is awesome in their own way. It’s about the singing a little bit, but finding the right fit is most important. That said, I auditioned for the Achordants because I played baseball and I liked the jerseys, so I what do I know?
How did you get started with a cappella?
My older brother did a cappella and I’m an impressionable young buck. He’s a Bass though and I’m a Tenor 1, so I must have done something wrong.
What part of Arts Everywhere Day are you most excited for this year?
I live in Morrison, so I’m really excited to see how the Morrison basketball court mural will turn out.
Woah, this group sounds pretty cool. How can I get involved?
You can see us in concert on April 6 and 7 at 8:08pm in the Stone Center! If you can’t make the concert but still want to hear us sing, our newest album will be released on April 6 on Spotify and Apple Music! And if you’d like to join, we’ll be having auditions at the end of April and the beginning of the fall semester! You can contact us at achordants.com with any questions/concerns/cat gifs.
You can catch the Achordants on Arts Everywhere Day performing at 11:00 AM at the steps of South Building. Hope to see you there!
